CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- BrooAlexa, a Charleston-based general construction company, will be honored as this year's Small Business of the Year in West Virginia at an awards luncheon on May 30.
BrooAlexa Chief Executive Officer Frances Foster Brooks and President Gene T. Brooks are also being honored as the state's Small Business People of the Year at the 2012 West Virginia Small Business Week Awards Celebration in Morgantown.
Keynote speakers Sen. Jay Rockefeller and SBA Administrator Karen Mills will recognize the state's small business winners at the Morgantown Event Center.
"You can't be selected as a winner unless you're nominated so it reflects that they are hard workers and they do things to help small businesses and themselves," said Rick Haney, SBA spokesman in West Virginia. "Frances got the letter from Washington that they were selected and she was just so excited she could hardly speak."
The Brookses are in the running for the National Small Business Person of the Year, which will be announced on May 21 in Washington, D.C.
The state Small Business Administration will honor a number of small business winners during an event in conjunction with the 2012 Teaming To Win conference.
