CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Arch Coal is idling its Imperial Mine in Upshur County.
Company spokeswoman Kim Link attributes the decision to a lack of demand for coal.
Link tells WBOY-TV that about 40 of the mine's workers will be transferred to the company's Leer Mine in Grafton. About 10 employees will remain on the job at the Imperial Mine. No layoffs are expected.
Link says the Leer Mine will need more than 200 workers in the next six months. Both mines are underground operations.
