Chester to celebrate cleanup of old plant

CHESTER, W.Va. -- Chester City Hall will host a community celebration marking completion of the cleanup of a former pottery plant.

The Dec. 5 event will be held by the Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle.

The development corporation bought the property in July 2011. The plant closed in 1981 and has sat empty since then.

Development corporation executive director Pat Ford told The Herald-Star of Steubenville, Ohio, that his organization is getting inquiries about reusing the site. He declined to identify those interested in the property, but he says the inquiries generally are related to the energy field.

Ford said the site will be added to the state's property inventory soon.
