Gary and Jeanette Baker said they buy certain fruits and vegetables organic because they want to avoid pesticide residue and it is healthier for them. As they shopped at the Ashton Place Kroger last week, Gary referred to a list they use to determine which foods are best to buy organic.
Ashton Place Kroger's nutrition clerk Daniel Withrow straightens the display of Simple Truth yogurt containers. Withrow said customers will notice the brand in the store much more starting next month.
Kroger's Simple Truth brand is available in 30 categories from salad to meat. Barbara Haumann, senior writer and editor for the Organic Trade Association, said organic foods aren't always more expensive than non-organic foods.
Kroger's latest lines, Simple Truth and Simple Truth Organic, are "free from 101" preservatives and artificial ingredients. All products sold with the Simple Truth Organic label are certified organic by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
