Former Fayette whitewater complex to be sold
HICO, W.Va. -- Songer Whitewater's former 100-acre headquarters complex along U.S. 19 near Hico is scheduled to be sold during a March 15 real estate auction.
Two years ago, after operating independently for 31 years, Songer became a partner in Adventures on the Gorge, an outdoor recreation outfitter created with the merger of Class VI River Runners, Mountain River and The Rivermen.
After becoming a part of Adventures on the Gorge, headquartered at Lansing, Songer "no longer needs its assets at Hico," said Jay Goldman of Goldman Associates Inc., the Charleston firm handling the auction.
Goldman said that in addition to more than 100 acres of land, Songer's holdings at Hico include a 7,000 square-foot headquarters building, two bunkhouses, five cabins, a lounge and a 100-site campground.
"It's right off U.S. 19 with very good frontage and public water," Goldman said. "It lends itself to campers and camping. The existing campground handled as many as 700 people at a time. If someone wanted to develop more spaces for vehicle camping, it could be done with a few modifications to the property."
According to a preliminary information packet for the auction, the property has an assessor's appraised value of $1,071,450. The suggested opening bid is $1 million. For more information on the sale, call 304-343-5695 or visit www.goldmanassociates.org/auctions/auction.pdf.
