CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Business professionals will learn more about machine-to-machine technology Wednesday during an interactive seminar at the Charleston Marriott Town Center.
Industry experts will give presentations at the Verizon Wireless Connected Technology Tour, which is visiting 20 cities across the country. The seminar takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Machine-to-machine (M2M) technology uses cellular communication for data and control. For example, Verizon's Networkfleet, used by interstate trucking companies, decreases fuel use, enhances vehicle use, controls maintenance costs with vehicle diagnostics and manages driver behaviors, according to the company.
After adopting Networkfleet, officials with the Eastern Municipal Water District, in Riverside County, Calif., learned that 10 minutes of idling in vehicles was using the same amount of fuel as driving five miles, according to Verizon's website.
Networkfleet's wireless fleet management solution included sensors to track when vehicles were stopped and had the engine running.
