Brittany, the hilariously dumb-blonde cheerleader, (Heather Morris, left) will be at the forefront of the Britney Spears-themed episode of "Glee," airing Sept. 28 on Fox.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Earlier this summer, it was revealed that the rumored Britney Spears episode of "Glee" would indeed happen. Last week, it was announced that Spears will appear.
On the surface, this news shouldn't particularly excite me. I didn't like the Madonna episode (it felt too forced and gimmicky), and I can take or leave Britney.
But I am excited.
Why? Brittany.
I'm not talking about Ms. Spears; I'm talking about Ms., well, we don't actually know her last name.
Brittany, the hilariously dumb-blonde cheerleader, will be at the forefront of the episode, where some of the kids fantasize about being like Spears while under anesthesia at the dentist (played by John Stamos, Emma's new love interest).
Brittany is a supporting character, but over the course of the season, her complete cluelessness made her a fan favorite. She earnestly delivers her random and/or ridiculous one-liners with perfect timing and expression.
The things she says even have their own Facebook pages. There are more than a dozen for her quotes in general and 14 quote-specific ones, including a whopping nine for her best quote ever (see below).
Brittany almost wasn't Brittany, though. Originally, creator Ryan Murphy wanted the character, the third in the cheerleading power trio, to be ethnic. Beyonce backup dancer Heather Morris, who plays the goofy girl, only came to the set to teach the actors the "Single Ladies" routine. However, Murphy was impressed with her and gave her the gig.
Had the outcome been different, I would still love the show, but now, it's hard to imagine what it would be like without Britt's signature quips. I've gotten to the point that whenever she's on screen, I put my drink down -- a lesson learned from too many spit takes whenever she opened her mouth.
Here are my favorite Brittany quotes from season 1, beginning with the aforementioned best quote ever.
1.Apropos of nothing: "Did you know that dolphins are just gay sharks?"
2.The wheelchair-bound Artie: "I'm kinda getting cold feet here." Brittany: "Can you even feel your feet?"
3.In response to Mr. Shue's speech about misogyny: "When I pulled my hamstring, I went to a misogynist."

5.Apropos of nothing: "I think my cat's been reading my diary."
6.Kurt's dad to him and Brittany: "If things get serious, use protection." Brittany: "Does he mean like a burglar alarm?"
7. Sue, wrapping up a meeting: "Anything else?" Brittany: "Sometimes I forget my middle name."
8.Describing "hairography": "It's like cool epilepsy."
9.Mr. Shue: "Brittany, take it away . . . " Brittany: "Take what away?"
10. About guidance counselor Emma: "She's the one they made me talk to when they found out I was keeping that bird in my locker."
All these came from a small role where she only had a few lines each episode. This season, both she and Santana (Naya Rivera) are regulars, so we'll be seeing more of her. I can't wait to hear what she has to say.
