Rockabilly band Tex Railers Doomtown plays The Empty Glass on Thursday, kicking off a month of free Thursday shows at the bar.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Everybody likes getting things for free, and as a way to say thanks to all its customers over the years, The Empty Glass, 410 Elizabeth St., is offering cover charge-free shows by touring bands every Thursday in March.

The series kicks off at 10 p.m. Thursday with rockabilly band Tex Railers Doomtown. March 8 brings singer/songwriter Phil Minnesale, who will be backed by The Carpenter Ants. On March 15, it's hippie bluegrass band Jive Creek Ramblers and the Tillers, and on March 29, it's Morgantown-based college rock band Sleepwalker.

A band for March 22 has yet to be announced, but Empty Glass booking agent and technical manager Jason "Roadblock" Robinson said that is in the works.

"We're pretty much doing a different genre every week," Robinson said. "These are all quality bands, and we hope it brings people out."

Robinson said that if the no-cover Thursdays are successful, The Empty Glass might continue them or bring them back later.

"It's definitely something we're talking about," he said.
