Gazzopolis: All new 'RFC' for 2012

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The first all-new episode of "Radio Free Charleston" for 2012 is online now at The PopCult blog at thegazz.com. "The Tom McGees Shirt" episode takes its name from the popular area punk/ska band (appearing Friday at The Blue Parrot) and features music from Buddy Black, Johnny Compton with Prank Monkey and Karma to Burn.

The show also includes previews of Danny Boyd's "Carbon" graphic novel and this Sunday's session of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art Show.

Canadian punk rockers Buddy Black are represented by the music video for their song "Xipe," from their EP, "Witchfinger," which is a tribute to Boyd's classic West Virginia horror movie, "Chillers." This video was directed by West Virginia State University grad student Curtis Baskerville and filmed in Dunbar and Institute.

Compton and Prank Monkey, the house band for the Wednesday night jam session/open mic at The Blue Parrot, appear in an animated video for the tune "Until We Meet Again." The video was processed by "RFC" host Rudy Panucci using his "digitally assaulted photograph" style to make each frame look like an oil painting.

The show wraps up with two numbers by Morgantown's nationally known Karma To Burn, which will appear at The Sound Factory on March 23. The performance was captured during the band's set last year at the Mission Coalition show at The Sound Factory.

Host segments for this week's show were shot at Haddad Riverfront Park.
