More than 400 high school students from 26 schools will attend the West Virginia State Thespian Festival today through Sunday at the Culture Center in the state Capitol Complex. Drama students will perform, attend workshops and be judged on their theater skills, with performances of 15 plays, 35 scenes, 58 monologues, 31 musical theater solos and more, along with technical theater contests in costume design, puppetry, set design and all aspects of production. 'The Lost Airmen of Buchenwald'

The documentary "The Lost Airmen of Buchenwald," about Allied airmen imprisoned at the Buchenwald concentration camp in the waning months of World War II, will screen for free at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Alban Arts Center, 65 Olde Main St., St. Albans.

'La Traviata' screening

A live broadcast of Verdi's "La Traviata" by the Metropolitan Opera will screen at 12:55 p.m. Saturday at Cinemark Huntington Mall and Great Escape Nitro. Ridley Scott's "Alien" is the final film in this spring's Flashback Film Series at Park Place Stadium Cinemas, 600 Washington St. E. The 1979 sci-fi classic won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, thanks in part to the famous chest-bursting scene, no doubt. Pictorial scavenger hunt

The Kanawha County Public Library and Charleston Stage Company are teaming up for a scavenger hunt during the April 19 ArtWalk in advance of Stage Company's production of "Picasso at the Lapin Agile." The hunt starts at the main library, 123 Capitol St. There you'll get a list of clues to objects located within or near the library. Take photos of the objects, then show them to a staff member at the reference desk. Grateful Dead film

At 7 p.m. April 19, Cinemark Huntington Mall will host "Grateful Dead Second Annual Meet-Up at the Movies." The event, screening at hundreds of theaters nationwide, features a two-and-a-half hour never-before-seen concert by the band at the Alpine Valley Music theatre on July 18, 1989. It also includes an introduction featuring rare, never-before-seen photos of the band and a previously unreleased live track recorded in the spring of 1990.
