London Olympics: What to see, where to find it

Members of the U.S. men's swim team share a laugh during practice at the Aquatic Center in London. The Olympics kicks off Friday.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The 2012 Summer Olympics starts Friday and runs through Aug. 12. In that time, NBC networks will broadcast a whopping 846 hours of coverage. If that's not enough, you can also stream events at www.nbcolympics.com.

Not everyone will watch, of course, but most TV viewers will tune in for at least a few events. There's just something about the Olympics that has even nonsports fans captivated during its two-week run.

I believe part of the reason for that is the Olympics transcends athletics. The games are as much about the stories behind the competitors as the competitions themselves. There are underdog stories and comeback stories, stories of triumph, hardship, inspiration and heart. The Olympics is the culmination of years of hard work for them, and at least for me, it's hard not to be at least a little inspired as I watch them.

Whether you're seeking specific events or just want to know what you'll catch while channel surfing, here's a look at what's going on this week at the games:
