Funeral Parade steps off in South Charleston Sunday
Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The annual local Funeral Parade  had a, well, near-death experience after a major sponsor dropped out of Charleston's version of the colorful parade. South Charleston city officials stepped in to save the day -- and the parade, which is inspired by a Mardi Gras tradition.

Head to the corner of 1st Avenue and D Street in South Charleston Sunday for the 3 p.m. start of the parade, which will head down D Street to the Mound led by the River Rat Band. More than 1,000 beads will be tossed out by the Mardi Gras Casino and Resort and 5,000 play coins by the city. Once at the Mound stage, trophies will be awarded for best costumes with concerts by the River Rat and Dixieland bands.

To join the parade, call the South Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau at 304-746-5552.
