Singer/songwriter Dave McCormick will give a concert to benefit the South Charleston Museum at 7 p.m. Saturday at the LaBelle Theater, 311 D St., South Charleston. During the two-hour show, McCormick will perform tunes that touch on a wide variety of genres, including country, rock, jazz and blues.

David Holt and Josh Goforth concert

History Alive! with Laura Ingalls Wilder

Beloved children's author Laura Ingalls Wilder comes to life courtesy of performer Karen Vuranch in a series of upcoming History Alive! presentations at Kanawha County Public Library branches. Vuranch's performance will cover Wilder's life in the Dakota Territory and Missouri, where she began to write for local papers and magazines and also began writing what would become the "Little House" books.

The free performances are 2 p.m. Monday at the main library; 10 a.m. at Riverside and 1 p.m. at St. Albans on Sept. 13 and 10 a.m. at Elk Valley and 2 p.m. at Cross Lanes on Sept. 14. Contact the respective library or visit www.kanawhalibrary.org.

Civic Chorus auditions

The Charleston Civic Chorus will hold the first rehearsal of its 61st season from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Charleston Baptist Temple. There are openings for new members in all sections. Acting and improv class

The Academy of Arts at Januarys is offering a six-week acting and improvisational theater class for children ages 10-15 beginning Sept. 13. Classes run 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Tennessee Avenue studio. Cost is $120. Participants must have some theater experience. Call 304-345-5141.

Dinner and a show

The Greenhouse of Teays Valley will host a dinner concert by the John Eric Booth Trio on Sept. 14. Dinner is at 7 p.m. and the concert at 7:30 p.m. The group will perform songs from the Great American Songbook, including tunes by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Nat King Cole.
