History Alive! with Laura Ingalls Wilder
Beloved children's author Laura Ingalls Wilder comes to life courtesy of performer Karen Vuranch in a series of upcoming History Alive! presentations at Kanawha County Public Library branches. Vuranch's performance will cover Wilder's life in the Dakota Territory and Missouri, where she began to write for local papers and magazines and also began writing what would become the "Little House" books.
The free performances are 2 p.m. Monday at the main library; 10 a.m. at Riverside and 1 p.m. at St. Albans on Sept. 13 and 10 a.m. at Elk Valley and 2 p.m. at Cross Lanes on Sept. 14. Contact the respective library or visit www.kanawhalibrary.org.
Civic Chorus auditions
The Charleston Civic Chorus will hold the first rehearsal of its 61st season from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Charleston Baptist Temple. There are openings for new members in all sections. Dinner and a show
The Greenhouse of Teays Valley will host a dinner concert by the John Eric Booth Trio on Sept. 14. Dinner is at 7 p.m. and the concert at 7:30 p.m. The group will perform songs from the Great American Songbook, including tunes by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Nat King Cole.

Storytelling festivalThe Southern Ohio Storytelling Arts & Music Festival runs Thursday through Saturday at the Pump House Center for the Arts in Chillicothe, Ohio. Among the performers is South Charleston's Bil Lepp. Activities include a free performance and reception at 7 p.m. Thursday, a ghost story session at the Majestic Theatre at 9:30 p.m. Friday and an open mic story swap from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturday.
Friday and Saturday admission is $15 for adults and $8 for children (ages 6-17). A weekend pass is $20 for adults, $10 for children and $40 for families. Friday's ghost story session is $5.

Fayetteville Heritage Festival
A heritage festival runs Friday through Sunday at the Historic Fayette Theater in Fayetteville. The free event features living history performances, Civil War re-enactments, workshops, lectures and concerts of Civil War music.
Historical portrayals include Robert E. Lee, Harriet Tubman and Stonewall Jackson. Music comes from Kempers and Clark and Gary Reynolds & Friends.

'Terror of the Tug'
"Terror of the Tug" will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sept. 14-15 at the McArts Amphitheater beside Mount View High School in Welch. The play, by Jean Battlo, depicts the coal mining wars in Southern West Virginia in the 1920s.
