Evensong service set for Sunday
Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Evensong service, which has been called the chief glory of Anglican church services, will be sung at 5 p.m. on Sunday by the St. Ambrose Choir of St. John's Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston.

Church leaders said the Evensong has become a community event, where people from all faiths come to experience the music of the English and American cathedral choral tradition.

Sunday's service will feature English composers Herbert Sumsion, Herbert Howells, Charles Villiers Stanford and Ernest Bullock.

After the ceremony, St. John's will hold a high tea in Hunter Hall. Finger food and dessert contributions are welcome, and should be brought to the kitchen before the Evensong service begins.
