CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- So, I was about to clean out the spam folder on my personal blog, WestVirginiaVille.com. But wait. Maybe I'd better see if any legitimate comments had accidentally fallen into the spam sewer.
Nope, not a one. But wait. Had I ever really studied the Art of Spam? I began to pore through the 100 or so comments flagged for inspection by my Wordpress spam filter. What I found was some sterling spam commentary. Or spammentary?
Were some of these glorious turns of phrase written by spambots or real human beings? An overworked 17-year-old named Rajnish, say, in an un-air-conditioned warehouse in Mumbai, trying to craft an appealing English sentence in a language he rarely used?
If so, here's to you, Rajnish! Really, there should be a literary prize. Hence, the First WestVirginiaVille Spam Literary Awards:
