CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Piedmont style of acoustic blues -- African-influenced and American honed -- is a rich stream, and Ernie Hawkins is one of its preeminent practitioners. Hawkins, a Pittsburgh native, was influenced early on in New York City by the fingerpicking guitar of the Rev. Gary Davis and has gone on to both channel that sound and explore it.
Hear for yourself when Hawkins performs Saturday in a FOOTMAD show starting at 8 p.m. at the Culture Center Theater. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for students and free for those under 13. For more information, call 304-415-3668 or visit www.footmad.org.
