The annual "Nativities From Around the World" exhibit opens Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Charleston. It runs through Sunday.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- More than 500 nativity scenes from more than 90 countries will be on display beginning Thursday at the Nativities From Around the World exhibit at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Charleston. The free non-denominational exhibit showcases different ways cultures have depicted the nativity, made from auto engine parts to crystal to scraps of wire and cloth by indigent Kenyan children and even West Virginia coal.
There's a table of nativities for children to play with and a craft room with make-and-take activities. On Sunday, hear live music by the W.Va. State Singers, Concordia Recorder Ensemble, and other area vocalists and instrumentalists.
Viewing times are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with lunchtime hours from 10 a.m. to noon Friday and Saturday. The church is located at 839 Chestnut St., near South Charleston High School. Call 801-503-4171.
