WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Kenny Chesney could be a Fourth of July headliner at this year's Greenbrier Classic.
The Greenbrier resort owner Jim Justice announced the country star would perform in Fairlea in an interview with The Register-Herald.
Still, a Greenbrier official told the Gazette Thursday night that the resort is still trying to finalize plans to bring the country star to the Greenbrier Classic.
"And until his people notify us, it is not a certainty," the Greenbrier official said.
Chesney is one of the biggest names in country music today. The singer/songwriter has recorded 15 albums, charted numerous singles including "Living in Fast Forward," "Live a Little" and "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy."
Over the past couple of years, the Greenbrier Classic Concert Series has presented a remarkable slate of entertainment. Performers who've played the classic include The Black-Eyed Peas, Bon Jovi and Rod Stewart.
Last summer, country superstar Toby Keith and '80s R&B and pop star Lionel Ritchie performed during the July Fourth show.
The Greenbrier Classic golf tournament is scheduled July 4-7. Admission to the tournament and the concerts, plus parking, is tied to the weekly grounds badge. Badges are $169 each until Feb. 1. After that, the price increases to $199.
