Tim DiFazio is the 2013 state Poetry Out Loud winner. He will represent West Virginia in the national finals in April. Actor/poetry enthusiast Chris Sarandon, a Beckley native, is the program's longtime master of ceremonies.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Tim DiFazio of Morgantown High School won the state Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest, held March 8-9 at the Culture Center.

Poetry Out Loud, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, is a recitation program designed to encourage high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance and competition.
DiFazio recited T.S. Eliot's "La Figlia che Piange," Robert Burns' "To a Mouse" and George Starbuck's "Sign." He received $200 and an all-expense-paid trip to the finals. His school library received $500 to buy poetry books.
Grace Pritt of Hurricane High School was runner-up. She received $100 for herself and $200 for her school library.
