Ethnic fairs, festivals held around W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The ethnic backgrounds of those who settled in West Virginia during its long history are still recognized in festivals held annually throughout the state. Here's a sampling of such festivals for 2013:

  • Irish Spring Festival, March 17, Ireland, Lewis County
  • Scottish and Celtic Heritage Festival, April 20, Parkersburg
  • North Central West Virginia Scottish Festival and Celtic Gathering, May 3-5, Bridgeport
  • Greek Food Festival, June 14 and 15, Clarksburg
  • Upper Ohio Valley Italian Heritage Festival, July 26-28, Wheeling
  • Swiss National Day, Aug. 3, Helvetia
  • Mahrajan Lebanese Heritage Festival, Aug. 11, Wheeling
  • Jefferson County African American Cultural and Heritage Festival, Aug. 16-18, Ranson
  • West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, Clarksburg
  • West Virginia Black Heritage Festival, Sept. 6-8, Clarksburg
