'RFC' from Tricon, plus tunes
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Episode 183 of "Radio Free Charleston" is online now at the PopCult blog (blogs.wvgazette.com/popcult). This is a special show hosted from Tricon, last week's big comic book convention in Huntington.
Aside from plenty of sights and sounds from Tricon, the episode also features music from Albert Perrone, Saprogen and Radio Cult, plus two trailers for movies that can be seen at the Keith-Albee Theater in Huntington during the 2013 Appalachian Film Festival Friday and Saturday.
The movie trailers are for "Ladybeard" and "Trace Around Your Heart." The first is an unconventional romantic comedy by Apartment 2B Production, directed by David Smith; the second, by Seth Martin and Friends, stars Sasha Colette and Trace Cherokee and is described as sort of "A Star Is Born" with country music -- and puppets
Both can be seen Friday at the film fest, with "Trace Around Your Heart" at 7:45 and "Ladybeard" at 9 p.m. Find out more at www.appyfiomfest.com.
The first musical guest is Albert Perrone, a member of The BrotherSisters, who performs his solo tune, "The Only Song," in a striking video. Saprogen, one of Charleston's hardest rocking bands, was recorded a few weeks ago at the Blue Parrot performing "Total Damnation."
Playing out the show this week is Radio Cult, a band 'RFC' host Rudy Panucci recorded a few weeks ago in when he was in Atlanta for the JoeLanta GI Joe convention. The band wraps up the show with its version of No Doubt's "Just A Girl."
