Budget Tapes and Records in Kanawha City will participate in the fifth annual Record Store Day on Saturday.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- At Record Store Day on Saturday, vinyl fans can snatch up limited edition records -- but only at their local, independent record store. In Charleston, that's Budget Tapes and Records, 3708 MacCorkle Ave. SE, Kanawha City.

Budget Tapes manager John Nelson said, "Record Store Day was started five years ago as a way to support independent record stores and build a culture around it."

Independent stores, like Budget, often struggle to hold their own against the chain stores, but Record Store Day gives them the advantage.

Nelson said, "Every year, artists release about a hundred 45s, 10-inch and 12-inch records that are exclusive to stores like ours."

The releases are from almost every genre, with some special re-issues. This year, The Black Keys, The Avett Brothers, Bob Dylan and David Bowie are among the artists with special Record Store Day releases.

On Saturday, Budget will also have live music from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., including performances by singer/songwriters Sean Richardson and Keef Mack, percussionist/songwriter Mark Davis and Josh Samples and Mike Pushkin of 600LBS OF SIN.
