India Heritage Fair

The India Center will hold a free Heritage Fair from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, showcasing India's culture, food, arts and crafts. Traditional dance performances will be at 1 and 4 p.m. Vendors will have food, clothing and jewelry for sale. Local artists will do mehndi (henna) body art for a small fee.

Armed Forces Day Concert

The Kanawha Valley Community Band will give a free concert at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at South Charleston's LaBelle Theater, 311 D St.

The hour-long concert will include sacred, secular and march music that honor those who serve our country. Selections include "The Stars and Stripes Forever," "God Bless the USA" and "America the Beautiful."

No Pants Players

When the No Pants Players perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Alban Arts Center, there will be some new faces on stage. The improv comedy troupe's newest member, Ryan Nolan, will make his debut, and opening the show at 6:50 p.m. are students from the Alban's adult improv class.

Art classes

The Hansford Center, 500 Washington St., St. Albans hosts three art classes beginning this week: Introduction to Illustration, 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays; Still Life/Figure Drawing, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Basic Drawing, 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays. Each class runs five weeks.

The instructor is Michael McAteer, a graduate of Columbus College of Art and Design. He'll have a free open studio sessions from 3 to 4 p.m. Fridays.

Texaco Showdown signups

Classic Country 1410 will host a local Texaco Country Showdown May 31, during the St. Albans Town Fair. Local winners advance to state finals, followed by regional and national finals. The grand-prize winner earns $100,000.

The contest is open to vocal and/or instrumental performers, from solo acts up to seven-member groups. There is a $20 entry fee.

Appalachian Children's Chorus camp

Applications are being accepted through May 29 for the Appalachian Children's Chorus' fifth annual Choral Camp. The camp runs 8:30 a.m. to noon June 3-7 at Oakwood Baptist Church.

Programs include choral singing, theater and music making with Orff instruments. A recital for friends and family closes out the week.
