The board also approved four pieces of artwork recommended for acquisition by Fonda Elliot, chairwoman of the acquisitions committee.
Elliot first discussed a gift from Dr. Gina M. Puzzuoli of an untitled pencil on paper by Eugene Delacroix, considered by some to be the greatest French painter of the Romantic Movement.
She said "Sloop," a 2007 lithograph by Charles Arnoldi, was a purchase funded by the board in honor of Ellen Cappellanti for her services as board chairwoman from 2011 to 2013.
The next acquisition was Edna Andrade's 1968 acrylic on board titled "White Dragons." The Charles B. and Judith W. Stacy Fund of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation funded the purchase.
The final piece was the 2010 "Sun/Moon (Trying to See through a Telescope)" by Sharon Harper. The UltraChrome print on Epson-enhanced matte paper was acquired through funding by the Albert & Helen Thalhaeimer Fund of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.
Regarding former Gov. Gaston Caperton's recent donation of "Wind Torn" by artist Joe Moss, Wellington told the group: "It's really a fabulous sculpture, and we are excited to have it."
