New 'RFC' loaded with music

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- "Radio Free Charleston" episode 190 is online now at The PopCult blog (blogs.wvgazette.com/popcult). The show includes music from The Renfields, Decomposing in Paris, The Dread Crew of Oddwood and Snakebox. There is also a new Prelinger compilation film by Frank Panucci.

The show is hosted at The Haunted Barn, 426 Beauregard St., the location of this weekend's horror/sci fi convention, ShockaCon. There will be live music Friday and Saturday, with The Renfields headlining Saturday. The band is on this "RFC" episode with previously unseen footage from last year's ShockaCon of its original song, "Killer Klowns From Outer Space."

Decomposing In Paris is an Irish band that found its way to The Empty Glass a few weeks ago. Made up of two Irish natives and one expatriate from Ashland, Ky., the band performs its song, "The Way It Is."

The show then takes time out for a dance break, which includes famed pin-up model Bettie Page.

The Dread Crew of Oddwood is a band of pirates from San Diego that sings of its adventures on the high seas using a style of music it calls "Heavy Mahogany." The "RFC" crew recorded The Dread Crew at The Empty Glass last month, and in this show you'll hear the band performing "Meat, Bread and Wine." Playing over the end credits this week is Snakebox, which returns after its debut in the previous episode of "Radio Free Charleston." This eclectic band performs lead singer Kevin Crump's original song, "Dead Planet."
