Three easy DIY pop culture Halloween costumes
HURRICANE, W.Va. -- With Halloween just around the corner, it's time to start thinking about finding the perfect costume. If you're like me, shopping at a temporary Halloween store is out of the question; the best costumes are the ones that are creative and individualized!
Why not dress up as your favorite TV show or movie character? Whether you're in a gang of friends or flying solo this Halloween, these do-it-yourself costume ideas will be sure to impress everyone!
This is the costume for those boys out there who are scrambling to find a last minute costume or are great at growing beards. Start by piling on as much camo as possible. This is a staple for the "Duck Dynasty" crew and a must for this costume.
To complete the look -- and make your costume totally recognizable -- buy a fake beard, grow your own or make one out of felt and yarn. (To do that, cut a beard shape out of felt and glue it to a piece of yarn to wrap around your head.)
Carry around a duck caller, and voila, you're part of the "Duck Dynasty" crew! You will totally start conversations with this costume.
Barden Bellas from 'Pitch Perfect'
"Pitch Perfect" was a big screen hit, and what better way to show up to your Halloween party than dressed up as the main girl group from it, the Bellas? To get the a cappella group's signature look, start with a navy (or black) skirt and a white button-up blouse.
The Bellas are known for their yellow scarves, so that is a must. If you can't find one, any yellow fabric will do. Split a yard of fabric with your buds, or find a yellow cloth napkin. Tie it around your neck, put on some black heels and tie your hair in a low ponytail.
You and your friends will be singing all night long. You better aca-believe it!
Minion from 'Despicable Me 2'
This is my personal favorite costume from my favorite animated movie of the summer. It is great for boys and girls of all ages, and it is so easy. All you need are some jean shorts or pants and a yellow top, preferably with a hood. If your top doesn't have a hood, use a yellow hat.
Take black pipe cleaners and arrange them into the minions' signature hairstyle on top of your head and secure with some glue or tape. Then, throw on some suspenders, black gloves and shoes and thick-rimmed glasses. (Pop the lens out of some 3D glasses to create the minion goggles look).
You'll have the perfect minion costume in no time!
