CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- On Sunday, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto won Golden Globe Awards for their performances in "Dallas Buyers Club." On Friday, area movie lovers can head to Southridge to see those performances when Marquee Cinemas opens the critically-acclaimed drama.
"Dallas Buyers Club" is based on the true story of Ron Woodroof (McConaughey), an electrician and hustler, who in Dallas in 1985, worked around the system to help AIDS patients get the medication they needed after he himself was diagnosed with the disease. Jennifer Garner co-stars as Eve Saks, a doctor who becomes a friend and advocate for Woodroof.
The R-rated film boasts a 93 percent rating on movie review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus being that it "rests squarely on Matthew McConaughey's scrawny shoulders, and he carries the burden gracefully with what might be a career-best performance."
