State man writes historical novel

Bill Stevens of Gerradstown has published a historical novel titled "The Promise of America," the first installment of a family saga covering three generations of Irish Americans.

The book traces the adventures of William Fitzpatrick, who claws his way to wealth and power. The book covers the role of the Irish in the Civil War, where the new immigrants often found themselves fighting against each other, according to where they were drafted.

"The Promise of America" is available to buy at www.billstevensbooks.com, wwwbuybooks on the web.com.

State native writes mystery

Canaan Valley is the setting for "Moon Signs," a traditional mystery now available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle format. The author, Helen Haught Fanick, is a native of Reader, Wetzel County, and now lives in San Antonio, Texas.

Fanick's favorite place has always been the Canaan Valley-Blackwater Falls area, and she says publishing a novel set in that region has been a goal since she began writing. A sequel, "Moonlight Mayhem," will be available soon.
