St. Albans histories
ST. ALBANS, W.Va. -- St. Albans Historical Society has several books available about local St. Albans history. All of the books are for sale and are available at the Curiosity Shop on Main Street and at McGees Office Supply on Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans.
Some of their books are: "Early History of St. Albans," "Coalsmouth Journal -- Selected Articles," "A Historical Sketch of St. Albans WV -- 1938," "St. Albans Historic and Architectural Survey," "Bicentennial of the Burning of Fort Tackett," "The Growing, Booming Years of St. Albans, WV, 1885-1910," "The Last Dollar" (1909), and "Tornado Remembered," all for $5 each. Also available are "Cemeteries of St. Albans" ($25), "Upper Kanawha Valley Cemeteries" ($30) and the video "History of St. Albans" ($20).
Other historical books available by local historians are "Coal, Steamboats, Timber & Trains" by Bill Dean, and "Tales from Coalsmouth" and "Rumors of War" by Margaret Bassitt.

Romance novelizing
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Gwyn Cready won a RITA, a prestigious award for romance novels, for "Seducing Mr. Darcy," her metafiction twist on "Pride and Prejudice."
Cready will talk about the risks and rewards of stealing from Jane Austen at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at Cross Lanes Branch Library. She'll also talk about her long and winding road to publication, and will sell and sign copies of all of her books, including her latest, "A Novel Seduction."
A Pittsburgh resident, Cready is the award-winning writer of five time travel and contemporary romances.
