The West Virginia Interstate Fair & Expo runs through Saturday at the fairgrounds on Butcher Bend Road in Mineral Wells. Nightly concerts at 8:30 p.m. are headlined by the Davisson Brothers Band on Thursday, Hunter Hayes on Friday and the Marshall Tucker Band on Saturday.

Festival of Steel
Stonewall Resort near Weston will host the musical Festival of Steel from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday at its Roanoke Plaza. The event, highlighting steel drum music, features Morgantown's Motown Steel, Virginia-based ensemble Mosaic Steel Orchestra, jazz/progressive/fusion group Jonathan Scales Fourchestra from Asheville, N.C., and Caribbean-themed band Kalabash, from Toronto.
Other performers are Pittsburgh's Jimmy Buffett tribute band, Tom Watt and the Fruitcakes, and Weston's modern country act, Bowyer Drive. Artisans will be set up on the grounds.

Elk River Gathering
The free Elk River Gathering takes place Saturday on the Braxton County Courthouse lawn in Sutton. It features 18th-century living-history demonstrations from 1 to 6 p.m., a "Walk Through History, 1730-1865" at 3 p.m., a living-history performance portraying Jeremiah Carpenter at 6 p.m. and a traditional Appalachian concert by Gerry Milnes at 7 p.m.
Offsite events include a History Alive! Program, featuring Cherokee leader Ostenaco, as well as water conservation and fish weir demonstrations at 10 p.m. at Café Cimino. Also, Dr. Robert Maslowski will present "An Archelolgical Survey of West Virginia People" at noon at Landmark Studio for the Arts (which is the backup location for all events in case of inclement weather.)
The event is being held in conjunction with the Mountain Lakes Festival, which runs Friday through Sunday at Sutton Lake and includes a cook-off, performance by the Chippewa Lake Water Ski Team, world champion wood-chopping show and more. Visit www.mountainlakesfestival.com.

"Battered but not Broken" will hold understudy auditions from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Metropolitan Baptist Church 205 Donnally St. (across from the King Center). Actors must bring resumes and headshots. The production will be performed Aug. 24-25 in Charleston and go on a 50-city tour in 2013. Actors must be willing to travel.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central West Virginia hosts its 18th annual Myrtle Beach Dinner Dance on Saturday at Little Creek Park in South Charleston. Dinner runs from 6 to 8 p.m., and the dance, with music by The Janitors and Soundtastic Enterprises, is from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Folk singer Ken Sizemore will perform "Songs of Justice, Equity and Compassion" during the Unitarian Universalist Congregation's 11 a.m. service on Sunday. Summer arts camps
The Academy of Arts at January's has openings in its upcoming arts camp at Scott Junction Plaza in Teays Valley. It runs 9 a.m. to noon Monday through July 26 for children ages 3-7. There are classes in dance (taught by Amy Munoz-Everet), improvisational theater (Bethany Cline) and music (Marsha Isaacs), as well as arts and crafts with Barbie Dailey. Cost is $175.
The academy has added new instructors to its Stage Kicks Arts Camp in Charleston, which runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through July 27 for children in grades 4-7. Instructors for it are Dick Wolfe (theater), Kristen Pennington (dance), Robert Haddy (stage makeup), Mark Scarpelli (songwriting), Barbie Dailey (art), Brian Young (music), Simran Walker (fashion) and Gina Thomas (art). 'Legally Blonde' tickets

'Star Trek: TNG' film event
On Monday, Great Escape Nitro and Cinemark Huntington Mall will host a special "Star Trek: The Next Generation 25th Anniversary Event" at 7 p.m.
The screening features two popular "TNG" episodes: No. 106, "Where No One Has Gone Before" (which finds the Enterprise 2.7 million light years out of the galaxy) and No. 114, "Datalore" (in which the crew meets Data's evil twin). It also includes never-before-seen cast interviews and behind-the-scenes looks at the artists who created the show's original effects.

Bramwell play
The Bramwell Theatre Corp. will stage the musical comedy "Smoke on the Mountain" July 26-Aug. 5 at Bramwell Wesleyan Church on North River Street. Performances are at 7 p.m., except on July 29 and Aug. 5 when they are at 3 p.m. Free entertainment at the historic depot follows the July 27-28 and Aug. 3-4 shows.

Gospel music school
The fourth annual Mountain State School of Gospel Music runs from Aug. 6-10 at Oakwood Baptist Church, 855 Oakwood Road. It has vocal classes for all ages (6 and up) and ability levels, as well as music theory classes.
Day sessions are 1 to 4 p.m., and evenings are 6 to 9 p.m. Students aren't required to attend both.
