CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- If you fancy yourself a fashionista, then log on to the Charleston Town Center Facebook page or website to enter its 2012 Project Style competition. July 30 is the last day to enter for the chance to nab a spot in the final preliminary round.
In the competition, entrants submit photos showcasing their personal style, then two contestants are selected for each preliminary and given a $150 mall gift card to put together a new outfit. They post photos and a video of that outfit as well as a statement of their style philosophy to the Project Style page of the mall's website, where people then vote for their favorite look.
Charleston Town Center marketing director Lisa McCracken cautioned that Project Style is not a beauty contest. "It's all about the apparel," she said.
At the end of the preliminary rounds, the finalists will compete in a live "style off" at the mall. The winner will receive a $1,000 mall gift card and be the face of the mall's advertising in the coming year.
He or she will then be part of a national competition, where the finalists from 20 malls across the country will compete for a trip to Mercedes Benz's Fashion Week in New York in 2013. The winner will be chosen by Project Style hosts Nick Verreos, a fashion designer and season 2 "Project Runway" competitor, and Jeannie Mai, a correspondent for NBC's "Fashion Star" and host of Style Network's "How Do I Look?"
In New York, the winner will not only attend runway shows at Fashion Week, but also will take a shopping tour in Soho with Verreos to spot emerging fashion trends. He will design a personal wardrobe sketch for the winner. Two preliminaries in the Town Center contest have already occurred, and voting runs through July 30 for the third.
