If there's one area in which "Riptide" comes up short it's the visuals. Environments lack detail, the frame rate is inconsistent, indoor environments get repeated multiple times and the lip-synching is so bad it's comical. Yet in spite of these shortcomings, I simply couldn't stop playing.
Indeed that, more than anything, sums up my feelings about "Dead Island: Riptide" -- for all its bugs, glitches and overall lack of polish, I couldn't resist the urge to play. It may not win any Game of the Year awards, but I can't imagine any game I'll play this year being more pure fun than "Dead Island: Riptide."
