CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- "Bucking Mule," a new CD from Sweetback Sisters multi-instrumentalist Jesse Milnes, showcases his rootsier side. The 15 cuts include the traditional tunes "John Henry,' "Wild Bill Jones" and "Hell Among the Yearlings," plus the early country music gems "Blow Your Whistle Freight Train" and "Billy Richardson's Last Ride."

Milnes, a native of Webster County and longtime Randolph County resident, is a top fiddler and fingerstyle guitarst. He is joined here by fellow Sweetback Sister Emily Miller; Chance McCoy on fiddle and electric guitar; Matthew Metz on mandolin and electric guitar and Joseph DeJarnette on bass.

"Brownsville" kicks things off with some bluesy fiddle and guitar from McCoy and Milnes, which underscores his fine duet singing with Miller.

Milnes demonstrates his songwriting skills with "Thank You," a country-swing tune featuring the fine electric guitar chops of Metz.

Hazel Dickens' "Won't You Come and Sing for Me," displays Miller's fine harmony singing. More great guitar, too.

The Sweetback Sisters are appearing Friday at 6:30 p.m. on the Levee as part of FestivALL.

"Bucking Mule" is available for $15 at P.O. Box 17, Valley Bend, WV 26293. Include your mailing address.
