Emotional 'Mad Love' a heart-wrenching read

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- In Suzanne Selfors' "Mad Love," when Seattle resident Alice Amorous' author mother, the Queen of Romance, is sent to a mental hospital, Alice is forced to lie for her. She becomes the Queen of Romance, stepping in for her mother at book signings and making everyone think everything is fine.

But things aren't easy. The publishing company wants a new book, and it's up to Alice to write it.

When a mysterious boy named Errol starts following her and telling her he's Cupid, Alice is naturally freaked out. He wants her to write his love story. After deep consideration, Alice decides that's how she can get the next book. Using his story will be easy<t40>...<t$>won't it?

Secrets about Cupid are revealed, but nothing is what it seems. Nothing has the fairytale ending that Alice wants. Fate steps in, altering her decisions. Reality hits her at an immeasurable pace. Nothing seems right for this 16-year-old.

When Alice realizes one of Errol's secrets might jeopardize his story and her only chance at saving her mother's title, she must deal with reality. She can't think of her love life. She has to do anything she can to help Errol regardless of whether she believes he is Cupid or not.

Lies and secrets become too much for Alice, but she buckles down. She fights harder than ever for her mother and her new inspiration, Errol.

When Errol intrudes on her "almost relationship" with a boy named Tony, she finally starts to believe that he really is Cupid. However, by the time she decides it might be true, it might be too late for Errol. It might be too late for the book that could save her mother's career.

"Happiness is sweetest when shared" is a quote from the author, Suzanne Selfors, who also wrote the books "Coffeehouse Angel" and "Saving Juliet." She shares happiness -- and other feelings -- with her readers. Emotions flow throughout her books.

Selfors has a way of pulling her readers in. Her writing may touch your heart, and her books are often tearjerkers that you can't stop reading. She may leave you stunned by her stories' outcomes.

"Mad Love" is definitely a tearjerker. It gets to your heart and will most likely leave you questioning what you believe about Cupid. It might just give you a chill, too.

This heart-wrenching novel is a must-read that keeps you on edge until the last word. When you get to the end, it leaves you wanting more. I highly recommended this novel for young adults.
