Recent Braxton County High School graduate Brodie Currence is in his third year as lifeguard. He said he has grown up around the pool and decided to be a lifeguard again this season.
"It's always something I've looked up to, and it looked like fun," Currence said of his decision to become one in the first place.
Even though he believes his job to be easy, he said, "The kids can get on my nerves at some points."
Another lifeguard, Braxton County High School senior Thomas Pritt, said, "The duty of saving lives is what motivated me to be a lifeguard because the lives of young children are more important than anything in this world."
More than just management at the pool has changed. Mosely has made a few minor improvements for safety, and some concessions have changed, Pritt said.
Local resident Crystal Davis of Sutton said, "I am the mother of three sons, so I enjoy coming to the pool because I know my children can have fun, and they will be safe."
Community members of all ages agree. The Braxton Pool is a fun and safe place for kids to spend their summer afternoons.
The Braxton Pool is open noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday until Aug. 19. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students. Call 304-765-2245.
