Donate vintage art

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Are you downsizing or redecorating? Are you an artist? Have you inherited quality art? The YWCA is looking for art for "Vintage 3," the YWCA's silent art auction. Co-chaired by Kemp McElwee and Susan Poffenbarger, the event will feature original artwork -- oils, pastels, watercolors, photography, sculptures, pottery and more.

Bring your donations of original art to the YWCA on Quarrier Street by June 11. The auction will be held at 5:30 p.m. June 18. Tickets are $25 and proceeds benefit women and children in need through the YWCA $2 Million Challenge. Call 304-414-3113 or visit www.ywcacharleston.org.

Show: 'Awareness'

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Five artists, in media ranging from traditional fine art to taxidermy, present "Awareness," a show about environmental issues surrounding everyday life. Sponsored by the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, featured artists include Paul Corbit Brown, Erika Osborne, Seth Davidson, Johnny White and Cristofer "Nik" Botkin. The show runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday through June 30 at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 815 Young St. Artists' reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. June 24 at the store. New Deal photos

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- An exhibition of New Deal photos, "Coal Miners, Coal Camps, and Molasses Making," can be seen 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through June 30 at the Robert C. Byrd U.S. Courthouse, 300 Virginia St. E. Works by Ben Shahn and Marion Post Wolcott, who visited West Virginia under the auspices of the U.S. Farm Security Administration to document life in Depression, the exhibit is funded by the West Virginia Humanities Council. Show: 'Knee Deep'

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Art Emporium Gallery presents "Knee Deep," an installation of art by J.P. Owens, featuring a rock bottom river scene with abstract fish, reptiles and other familiar creatures created with wood and other found items.
