'The Color Purple' performances

Clay Center fun day

The Clay Center celebrates National Lab Day with activities from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Activities include a flight lab to make your own paper airplanes and whirligigs, a physics lab to learn about magnets and an art lab to create torn paper works. 'Battered . . . But Not Broken' fundraiser

A fundraiser gala for the domestic violence play "Battered . . . But Not Broken" takes place at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Charleston Civic Center North Hall. Actors will perform scenes from the play, which will be staged July 5-8 at the Civic Center, and Stratus will provide music.

Nalani Madison Hasty, a 7-year-old poet from Florida, will recite an original work, and Mildred Muhammad (ex-wife of D.C. sniper John Allen Muhammad) and play director Shelly Garrett will speak, as will Dr. Lloyd Alan Hill, Pastor Paul A. Dunn and the Rev. Ronald English.
