Lichtenstein in Chicago
CHICAGO -- The Art Institute of Chicago has staged an exhaustive retrospective of the artwork of Roy Lichtenstein. "Roy Lichtenstein: A Retrospective" contains more than 100 paintings, plus sculptures and drawings, spanning half a century.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the exhibit is the first full survey since Lichtenstein's death in 1997, a month before turning 74. "[I]t's studded with revelations," said a recent Tribune article.
The show closes Sept. 3 at the Art Institute and then goes to Washington's National Gallery, Paris' Centre Pompidou and London's Tate Modern next year.

Impressionist in Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH -- Carnegie Museum of Art's newest exhibit, "Impressionism in a New Light: From Money to Stieglitz," presents work of Mary Cassatt, Paul Cezanne, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Camille Pissarro, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Paul Signac, Alfred Sisley and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, among others.
In addition to works from the Carnegie Museum's own distinguished collection, the exhibit includes paintings and drawings on loan from the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Frick in Pittsburgh and private collectors. The Impressionism exhibit runs through Aug. 26.

Tamarack gala
BECKLEY, W.Va. -- The Tamarack Foundation gala "Courting the Muse" will start at 6:30 p.m. June 22 with a special surprise guest who, gala coordinators say, will show that he did it "My Way" to bring accolades to West Virginia and the arts community. He will perform live at the artisan gala and auction benefiting artists and their small West Virginia businesses.
The gala will feature gourmet dinner in the art deco supper-club style of the 1930s by Greenbrier-trained chefs, sparkling cocktails, dancing and the special surprise concert. Tickets are available for $150 at 304-926-3770 or at www.tamarackwv.com.

Quilt, wall hanging show
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Division of Culture and History's annual exhibition, "Quilts and Wall Hangings 2012," in the Culture Center. The juried show, featuring 55 quilts and wall hangings by West Virginia quilters, is on display through Sept. 3.
Awards were presented during the Vandalia Gathering. Quilt awards are $750 for first place, $400 for second place and $300 for third place. The wall hanging awards are $400 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place. The division also made two purchase awards, one quilt and one wall hanging, and the judge designated a best-of-show prize of $100.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Judy Pfaff is the Walter Gropius Master Artist in June at the Huntington Museum of Art. An exhibit of her work is on view through Aug. 26.
Internationally recognized for her complex large-scale installations, Pfaff pioneered installation art in the 1970s and remains one of the movement's most influential artists, renowned for her ability to manipulate space.
