Manna Meal garden art

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Manna Meal invites artists to help celebrate the fourth year of the Manna Meal garden's success by using its garden or another of their choice as inspiration to create artwork incorporating the theme "Art in the Garden -- so the hungry can eat."

"Art in the Garden" exhibition and auction will be a major fundraiser for Manna Meal Inc. as well as an event for artists to showcase and to sell the work they created for the event.

The art exhibit will be on display from Oct. 11 to 6 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Clay Center grand lobby, when the art will be auctioned.

Notice by email of participation is due by 5 p.m. July 31. Submission deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 29. The selections will be announced Oct. 8.

Artists will set the base price to begin the bidding at the auction (a $100 minimum is recommended). The final selling price will be divided between the artist and Manna Meal. Artists are encouraged to attend the auction but it is not mandatory.

Guide of city's art

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A new glossy guide, featuring the locations and photographs of more than 50 pieces of outdoor art in Charleston, was released last week.

The free guide is part of a public art plan initiated through the National Endowment for the Arts' Our Town grant program.

"Art plays such an important role in our community and we are honored to celebrate it through this publication," said Susie Salisbury, vice president of community development for the Charleston Area Alliance and project director for the effort.
