The eighth annual Tsubasacon, West Virginia's only anime convention, runs Friday through Sunday at the Riverfront Ballroom and Conference Center, adjacent to the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington. Activities include cosplay, an anime music video contest, vendors, panels and more. Guest speakers include voice actors Patrick Seitz and Lauren Landa, musical act The Extraordinary Contraptions, artist Dirk I. Tiede and "Greggo," who brings his anime game show.

Roller derby
The Chemical Valley Rollergirls take on the Greenbrier Valley Roller Vixens in their last home bout at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Charleston Civic Center. Doors for the "Capital City Punishment" bout open at 3 p.m.

Montclaire String Quartet

Murder mystery at Cranberry Glades
The Pocahontas County Opera House presents The Mystery of Gauley Marsh" at 1 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 20 at the Cranberry Glades Botanical Area. It's the tale of a 19th century jury's trip to the marsh as part of the James Brooden's murder trial; the audience plays the part of the jury.

Film festival fundraiser
The West Virginia International Film Festival benefit Motion Picture Mixer, featuring films, live music, food and beverages, runs 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at 226 1/2 Capitol St. (Ann Saville's loft above Taylor Books). The Fall Film Festival runs Oct. 31-Nov. 10 at the Capitol Center Theater.
