Black Friday ArtWalk

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A special Black Friday edition of ArtWalk will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 23 in downtown Charleston.

At Art Emporium, an opening reception for "Small Works and Miniatures" by Allied Artists will take place during ArtWalk. The exhibit will run through Dec. 15.

Artists with works in the show are Sonja Adkins, Brenda Beatty, Kathy Boland, Sheila Caim, Carolyn Cavendish, Joe Ann Crawford, Judy Douglas, Julie Hamilton, Sharon Harms, Deborah Herndon, Steven Holsclaw, Jo Anne Jacobs, Sandra King, Kevin Lightner, Jane Ann Long, Deborah McHenry, Pat Miller, Judith Pratt, Emily Roles, Debbie Sisson, Trudy Stevens, Connie Stover, Regina Swim, Leah Toler, Jerre Watkins, Helen Williams and Martha Jane Williams.

At Taylor Books Annex Gallery, the work of more than 20 artists and artisans will be on display. They include ink bird art of Staci Leech-Cornell, mixed-media sculpture by Jon Salo, painted wood carvings by Charly Hamilton, watercolors by Janet Ripper Chambers, hand-printed letter press designs by Bryan Christopher Baker, mixed media by Chase Henderson, repurposed antique art by Gary Needham, ceramic sculptures by Jamie Lester, pottery by Jason Kiley, ceramic sculpture by Brett Kern, woodcarvings by Lonnie and Twyla Money, pottery by Eric Pardue, handcrafted jewelry by Dan Cook, cut paper design by Megan Schultz, ceramics by Chris Rodgers, monoprints by Yvonne Leonard, wood block and linoleum block prints by Mary Grassel and paintings by Robbie Moore.

White Oak Photography will show the paintings and handcrafted artisan jewelry by The Arts Duo. All items will be for sale.

Pat Roberts is the featured artist this month at Gallery Eleven. Her exhibit is titled "Rocks, Fields, Streams."

The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation will show the photographs of Aurelius Jeffrey, K.D. Lett and Jurgen Lorenzen. During the evening, musicians from the West Virginia Youth Symphony will perform.

The House of Luxe will display the jewelry designs of Deborah Davis.

'Living the Dream' nominations

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Martin Luther King Jr. West Virginia Holiday Commission is seeking nominees for the "Living the Dream" awards and Service Organization Honor Roll that will be presented during the state's Martin Luther King Jr. holiday observance Jan. 19. Nominations from the public for the five annual awards are due by Dec. 17.

The five awards are for Advocate of Peace, Sharing of Self, Human and Civil Rights, Scholarship and Governor's Living the Dream Award.
