CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Four state museums will join more than 1,400 other facilities across America Saturday in offering free programming as part of Smithsonian Museum Day: the West Virginia State Museum in Charleston, the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex in Moundsville, the Museum in the Park in Logan and West Virginia Independence Hall in Wheeling.
The Culture Center's State Museum in the state capitol complex will showcase artifacts from aboard the USS West Virginia BB-48, including a bell, sailor's hat, engine room clinometer, coins and a piece of the deck planking. A ship's model, which took three years to build, will be on display.
Also taking part in the day are the Clay Center, the Huntington Museum of Art, the Anna Jarvis Birthplace Museum in Grafton, Arthurdale Heritage Inc. in Arthurdale and the Pocahontas County Historical Museum in Marlinton.
To have admission fees waived at applicable venues, visitors must present the free Museum Day Admission Card, downloadable from www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday.
