Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike Saturday to Falls of Hill Creek. Meet at 7:30 a.m. to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at Eagle Camp on W.Va. 55/39). Hike is about 10 miles on moderate connecting trails: Trail 259/Pocahontas trail/Fork Mount trail ending at Falls of Hill Creek.

Greenbrier Historical Society will sponsor October's First Friday event from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 5 in downtown Lewisburg for a haunted candlelit tour of the North House. The historical society will open its doors for an evening of thrills, chills and fall fun. Tours will begin every 10 to 15 minutes. West Virginia State University will feature a self-defense seminar from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 9 outside Dawson Hall at the university. The seminar is being held because October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. All students and friends of students are encouraged to attend.
