International film festival ends Saturday

In "Bernie," Jack Black plays a beloved small-town Texas mortician who becomes friends with a wealthy widow (Shirley MacLaine), kills her and goes to great lengths to create the illusion she's still alive. The black comedy, based on a true story, screens at 7 p.m. tonight.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The 29th annual West Virginia International Fall Film Festival runs through Saturday at the Capitol Center Theater, 123 Summers St. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students (with ID). A six-ticket pack is $30. Call 304-342-6522 or visit www.wviff.org.

THURSDAY

7 p.m.: "Bernie": True-crime black comedy starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey. Rated PG-13 (some violent images and brief strong language).

9 p.m.:"The Kid with a Bike": Subtitled Belgian drama about a boy's search for the father who abandoned him. Rated PG-13 (thematic elements, violence, brief language and smoking).

FRIDAY

7 p.m.: "Monsieur Lazhar": Oscar-nominated Canadian comedy/drama about an Algerian immigrant hired to replace a popular grade school teacher who died suddenly. In French with subtitles. Rated PG-13 (mature thematic material, a disturbing image and brief language).

9 p.m.: "The Queen of Versailles": Documentary about a billionaire family's drastic lifestyle change in the wake of the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis. Rated PG (thematic elements and language).

SATURDAY

5 p.m.: "Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry": Subtitled documentary about the Chinese artist/activist. Rated R (some language).

7 p.m.: "Take This Waltz": Canadian drama centered on a love triangle between a married woman (Michelle Williams), her husband (Seth Rogan) and her neighbor (Luke Kirby). Rated R (language, some strong sexual content and graphic nudity).

9:30 p.m.: "Pariah": Drama about a young, black lesbian embracing her sexual identity. Rated R (sexual content and language).
