Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a "soup hike" Sunday at Kanawha State Forest's Lindy/Middle Ridge/Polecat Loop areas. Meet at 12:30 p.m. to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at the KTC lodge at 1 p.m. The hike is approximately 3 1/2 miles on a trail with hills. A shorter version: Hike out and back on the road to the shooting range, is available.
Kanawha County Public Library will offer a program titled "Prepare for the Next Flood Disaster" at area libraries. Richard Carte, floodplain management specialist with the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, will discuss how to avoid the worst destruction of major flooding and other matters relating to flood disasters. Participating libraries and dates offered are: Main Library: 2 p.m. Feb. 2; Elk Valley Branch Library: 6 p.m. Feb. 4; Dunbar Branch Library: 6 p.m. Feb. 7; St. Albans Branch Library: 2 p.m. Feb. 9; Clendenin Branch Library: 6 p.m. Feb. 12; and Sissonville Branch Library: 6 p.m. Feb. 28.
Charleston Parks and Recreation will sponsor a Kids Snow Bunny Run at 1 p.m. Feb. 3 in Kanawha City. Ages 4-7 will participate in a 1/4-mile run and ages 8-12 will have a 1/2-mile run. No charge. Registration begins at noon at WVU/CAMC Charleston Division, 3110 MacCorkle Ave. S.E. The run start and finish will be at 31st Street and Virginia Avenue. Parents may run with their child, if needed.
