Auditions scheduled for Guild's "Evita"
Auditions have been scheduled for the Charleston Light Opera Guild's performances of "Evita," which will be presented May 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18 at the Civic Center Little Theater.
Singing auditions will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday<co Feb.4,5 > at the Guild theater, 411 Tennessee Ave. Singers may come either night with a prepared selection. Music will be available if songs are from the show, otherwise bring sheet music for the piano accompanist.
Dance auditions will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, also at the Guild theater. Dress to dance.
Singers and dancers should bring a list of any conflicts they might have with the rehearsal schedule.
Available roles are: Eva Duare Perone, stylish, mezzo-soprano, 30's; Che, dramatic tenor, 20's-50; Juan Peron, strong character baritone, 30's-60; Augustin Migaldi. handsome and dramatic tenor, mid 20's-30's' Peron's Mistress, young soprano featured on the song "Another Suitcase, Another Town;" Youth, girls and boys who sing in the upper register, about 12 years old, to portray one or more children who idolize Eva; People of Argentina, large ensemble of men and women singers and dancers to portray various roles including cabinet members, nurses, upper class citizens, military, generals etc.
"Evita" is the story of Argentina's legendary first lady, who was born into poverty and became a figure of near religious devotion by many before she died of cancer in 1952 at age 33.
The Guild last presented this classic in 1988.
