Model train show

The 7th annual Collis P. Huntington Model Train Show takes place Friday through Sunday at the Dunbar Community Center. It features several operating model railroad layouts, collections of railroad memorabilia and the exhibit "Riding the Rails Connecting West Virginia," as well as more than 100 merchandise tables.

Hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $4 for adults and $1 for children. Call 304-543-2323 or email cphmodelrailr...@aol.com.

Drum clinic

Jim Donovan, one of the founding members of the jam band Rusted Root, presents a Rhythm Revival Drumming Retreat on Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 520 Kanawha Blvd. W. The clinic runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., divided into two sessions with a break for lunch.

It is for drummers of all skill levels ages 16 and up. Drums are provided, but space is limited. Participants should bring a bagged lunch or a vegetarian dish for a potluck lunch.

Cost for the full day is $69 in advance or $89 at the door; attend only the afternoon session (1:30 to 5 p.m.) for $39 in advance or $49 at the door.

Opera Guild auditions

The Charleston Light Opera Guild will hold auditions for its June production of the Tony-winning rock musical "Next to Normal" at 11 a.m. Saturday at its theater, 411 Tennessee Ave.

Auditioners should have a musical selection prepared, with sheet music for the accompanist. Scripts for readings will be provided.
