International Film Fest ends Sunday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The 2012 Spring International Film Festival runs through Sunday at the Capitol Center Theater, 123 Summers St. It features films from around the globe, focusing on acclaimed, award-nominated pictures that didn't make their way to Charleston upon their initial release.

Tickets are $7 per film or $5 for students. A six-pack of tickets is available for $30. For more information, visit www.wviff.org. Unless noted, films are English language from the U.S.

Thursday

7:30 p.m.: "Pina": Germany/France/UK. Subtitled. Rated PG (some sensuality/partial nudity and smoking). Screens at Park Place Stadium Cinemas. Oscar nominee for Best Feature Documentary and BAFTA nominee for Best Foreign Language Film.

In a 3D tribute to the late German choreographer Pina Bausch, her dancers perform her most famous creations. Directed by Wim Wenders.

8 p.m.: "Bill Cunningham New York": USA/France. Unrated. Free screening sponsored by Taylor Books Annex Gallery. A cinematic profile of the acclaimed 83-year-old New York City fashion photographer.

Friday

7 p.m.: "The Guard": Ireland. Rated R (pervasive language, some violence, drug material and sexual content). Black comedy. Golden Globe nominee for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical (Brendan Gleeson), BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay and Sundance Grand Jury Prize (World Cinema, Dramatic).

Fish-out-of-water tale about a confrontational unorthodox Irish policeman (Gleeson) teamed with an uptight FBI agent (Don Cheadle) to investigate an international drug-smuggling ring.

9 p.m.: "Carnage": France/Germany/Poland/Spain. Rated R (language). Black comedy. Golden Globe nominee for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical (Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet).

Two sets of parents agree to a cordial meeting after their sons get in a fight; as the evening progresses, their own behavior becomes increasingly childish. Based on the Tony Award-winning play "God of Carnage." Directed by Roman Polanski. Co-starring John C. Reilly and Christoph Waltz.
