CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two acclaimed indie films come to Park Place Cinemas starting Friday. "Beasts of the Southern Wild" (PG-13) is a down-home yet apocalyptic fable, featuring a 6-year-old in a delta shack, facing the possible end of the world. The film, starring Quvenzhane Wallis (above) as Hushpuppy, won major awards at both Cannes and Sundance. "The Intouchables" (R) is an irreverent, uplifting comedy based on the true story of the friendship between a quadriplegic millionaire aristocrat and a street-smart ex-con from the projects who becomes his caretaker. In just nine weeks after its release in France in November 2011, it became the second biggest box office hit in the country.
