'E.T' returns to theaters for anniversary event

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- It's been 30 years since E.T. phoned home, but on Wednesday, Steven Spielberg's lost alien will be making the call again when theaters across the country team with Turner Classic Movies for the "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial" 30th Anniversary Event.

The screening features a newly remastered print of the Oscar-winning film about the friendship between young Elliot (Henry Thomas) and E.T. There is also an introductory feature about the making of the movie with TCM host Ben Mankiewicz, including stories from Drew Barrymore (who co-hosts TCM's The Essentials series).

Local screenings are at 2 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Great Escape Nitro and Cinemark Huntington Mall. Tickets at Great Escape are $12.50 for adults and $9.50 for students and seniors. At Cinemark, they're $11.50 for adults, $10.50 for students and seniors and $9.50 for children. Call 304-769-0405 (Nitro) or 304-733-3984 (Huntington).
